This painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this dramatic still life image of “MARDI GRAS MASK”. You’ll learn some basic painting tricks and techniques that will have you painting vibrant sparkling sequins on a jester style joker celebration mask with glittery beads and a masquerade look. You’ll learn to paint dimension in the hat, face, and strands of beads with blending properly placed highlights and shadows that will provide form and shape to the shapes of the objects. You learn how to bring life to the hat portion by adding movement in the fabric and by painting reflective highlights on the sparkling sequin details. The beads will become 3d with the design formation and proportional layout, which will provide a realistic visual effects that gives the illusion of the objects popping out of the canvas. Customize your colors to represent your favorite colors or use traditional found on these stylistic face coverings. This stunning piece of art will surely be one that you are proud of and want to hang on your wall or give as a gift. Using only 3 brushes and 6 colors we’ll create this gorgeous inspirational still life painting with lots of emotion and vibrant soothing colors that is sure to enhance any décor! MATERIALS:
Canvas: 16×20 stretched primed canvas Brushes: 1/2 flat bristle (large), #8 round (medium), #1 round (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, deep yellow, burnt umber (brown), fluorescent purple, phthalo green
Other: chalk, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle brush – Paint the background with black, brown and white
2. chalk – Draw outline of mask
3. #8 round brush – Paint base coat of face with brown and white
4. #8 round brush – Paint base coat of mask hat with yellow, purple and green
5. #8 round brush – Paint shadow under mask with black and brown
6. #1 round brush – Paint 1st layer of beads with yellow, purple and green
7. #8 round brush – Paint 2dn layer to mask hat with yellow, purple, green, brown and white
8. #1 round brush – Paint mask border with yellow and white
9. #1 round brush – Paint base coat of decorations with yellow, white, purple and green
10. #1 round brush – Paint glitter dots with yellow, green, purple, white, brown and black
11. #1 round brush – Finish decorations with white, black, brown, green, yellow and purple
12. #1 round brush – Paint bead shadows with black and brown
13. #1 round brush – Paint bead highlights with white, yellow, purple and green
14. #1 round brush – Sign with black
