We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Again, with the nipple piercing, the after care of it is just anti-bacterial soap, the best thing to do is just keep it right in the shower. Because the body wash, the perfumes in the body wash, the dyes, everything like that can um, irritate the piercing. Again, just dial soap, any type of anti-bacterial soap in the shower with you. Right before you get out, wash your hands really, really well. Wash it, rotate the jewelry as good as you can. A hoop is your best bet because you can rotate it more, you can get the soap in there, you can clean it very well. When you first get it done, I strongly recommend when it comes to your shirts and everything like that, um, I recommend making sure that your laundry detergent is a free detergent. Not having any dyes or any perfumes or anything like that. Uh, just Because it will uh, heal up. And when it comes to females, a lot people ask if you can or can’t wear a bra or sleeping, or anything like that. And a bra is actually causes pressure on the hoops, and it keeps it flat down, so it won’t irritate it or anything like that. So a bra or a sports bra is your best bet.

We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Monroe piercing is a piercing that’s done on the upper lip more commonly with females. The healing on it is actually pretty much exactly like a snake bite. It’s just the upper part. It’s done with a stud. At first the stud is 3/8 in length to start with just because it does swell up. You’re going to want to ice it as much as you can the first few days and then a mouth wash whenever you eat, drink, or smoke anything other than ice or water. And again with this one the length of it can be kind of irritating. The first one just needs to stay in for about 3 weeks and then you can switch to one that’s smaller and more snug to your lip itself. Again, the location is all personal preference. There are either side and typically what it is it’s lined up with the crease of your nose to the corner of your lip. Right in that general area. Pretty much directly in the center.

We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Tongue piercing it’s a really really simple and pain-free piercing. It does swell up. There are a lot of myths out there about tongue piercing. Again, saying it can destroy your teeth – it’ll have affect on the enamel of your teeth and all this. As long as you do not play with your tongue ring all that much, you really won’t have a problem with it. It’s done directly in the center of your tongue. Usually about an inch to an inch in a half towards the back. It’s done with a longer bar at first because it does swell up. It tends to swell for about two weeks. Icing of the tongue is the most important thing to do especially in the first four or five days. You just want to eat ice cubes as much as you can cause it will just be a lot more comfortable for you…and then a mouth wash. Just keep mouthwash with you. Mouthwash whenever you eat, drink, or smoke. Smoking, you really want to cut back,if you do, as much as you possibly can. You really shouldn’t but again, we all have our vices and if you can’t, just keep some mouthwash with you and rinse it really really well.

Learn everything you need to know about a cartilage piercing, aka helix piercing, from professional body piercer Dana Dunn in this Howcast video.

My name’s Dana Dunn. I’ve been working in the piercing business going on 6 years now. I do typically about 3,000 to 4,000 a year. I work at Pins and Needles Tattoo. We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Cartilage piercing, if it’s done properly, it is done with a needle. You should not get cartilage piercings done with what they call a gun, a piercing gun, and it should be done with a hoop. Healing for it, what I recommend is an antibacterial soap like Dial hand soap at least two to three times a day. And you want to rotate the jewelry when you’re cleaning it and only when you’re cleaning it. You never want to touch the jewelry with dirty hands or anything like that, and you wanna make sure that it moves when you’re cleaning it and that’s it. Other then that, you don’t want to mess with it. You want to keep the hoop in place for at least four weeks before you put a stud in. You wanna make sure that it is healed before you do put a stud in because studs don’t have a lot of room to move around. Again, the antibacterial soap is the best thing for it. People also use first aid cleaners like bacteen, first aid spray, or a product called H2Ocean, which is a sterile sea salt spray that speeds up the healing time for cartilage.

We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. The actual name for the neck piercing is the nape, which is in the back of the neck. Ah, it’s a certain piercing that goes in the fold of your neck, your..back and the crease of your neck actually meet. So, we go with your skin, you know if you try to, you know if you are moving around, it actually goes with it. It’s typically about an inch long, arranged in with a staple. People usually put a regular barbells and after wards an heal. Just like a regular, like a tongue ring. People can change the..the balls on it and everything like that. Healing is really easy. The most important thing with nape piercing is that, make sure it’s clean, especially after using shampoo and conditioner, in the shower, ’cause, dyes and perfumes and everything like that can actually cause it to be infected. And so, the big thing is that to making sure you clean it really really well, especially after washing your hair.

We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Septum piercing is the area of skin in the center of you nose. A lot of people call it a bowl piercing. That one is typically done with a 14 gauge. It is typically done with a captain earring which is a hoop with a single ball, or a horseshoe or a curved barbell, which is again a horseshoe with two balls on the end. The process of that is pretty quick pretty easy. It does make your eyes water up, it is a little bit of a pinch. But the care for it is pretty simple, it’s just anti-bacterial soap on the tips of your fingers, as good as you can. Your body actually heals it up by itself pretty quick and easy. A lot of people get the curved barbell in there because they can flip it up if they need to hide it for work or anything like that. Again it’s a really simple piercing healing is pretty easy. And again there are probably a lot of people out there that have it done and you really wouldn’t even tell, because they just flip it up and hide it.

We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Snake bites is two lip piercings on both sides of the mouth. It’s a really easy process. They do tend to swell up so I recommend icing, eating ice cubes, Popsicles, ice cream. Anything really cold that’ll keep the swelling down to a minimum for the first few days is really important with snake bites. I strongly recommend getting them done with hoops at first just because when it comes to cleaning you want to be able to rotate the jewelry. Some places will do studs, but the studs aren’t too too long so they don’t really move around that much. It’ll take a long time for them to heal. With any oral piercing, especially snake bites, if you smoke you’re going to want to make sure you keep mouth wash with you at all times and you want to rinse your mouth out really really well. It’s the same thing with any type of very very sugary juices or citrus juices like orange juice. Anything like that, coffee, soda. Anything like that you really want to rinse it out and make sure your mouth is really clean especially for the first two weeks after having snake bites done. They do take about four to six weeks to fully heal. They do tend to be a little swollen for about two weeks after getting them done, but once they’re done the healing time is really really easy. Four to six weeks.

Learn how to care for an ear stretching, aka gauge piercing, from professional body piercer Dana Dunn in this Howcast video.

Gauging and ear stretching is a, it’s a slow process. You really want to take your time when it comes to it. I have gauged ears myself, mine are at an inch which are pretty big for society these days. What it is, is the lower number of the gauge, the larger the size is. Typically a normal ear piercing is a sixteen gauge which is pretty small, and then it goes in sets of two. So sixteen, fourteen, twelve, ten, etc., etc., until you get to a zero, and then it goes to a double zero, and then it goes to actual sizing. As in quarter inch, half inch, three quarters, five eighths, an inch. And the taking care of them, it’s really just, when they’re first stretched, you just wanna keep them just like it’s a piercing. You want to wash it with an antibacterial soap, just keep it really, really clean. They do swell up just a little bit depending on the size of the jump, but again you really want to take your time when it comes to stretching your ears. Just because you can actually tear your earlobe and it’s, it’s called a blowout is what it’s called. Which consists of thee inner part of the healed ear will actually come on the outside, and it will leave an extra little piece of skin on the back of the ear. It can be removed but again, if you just take your time when it comes to stretching your ears, it really won’t happen, it doesn’t happen that much. But again, I can’t stress enough to really just take the time to do it properly.

A Tragus piercing is a cartilage piercing right on the outside your ear canal, its a small little piece of skin right there. Um, that piercing right there, its done with an 18 gauge hoop, a small little hoop. Basically how its done um, each piercer obviously has different ways of piercing it. Me personally, I like to take a receiving tube, which is a hollow metal tube, and its put right in the back of the Tragus itself. And it kinda puts some pressure on it so it kinda puts it out so its straight. The needle goes directly through, the hoop follows, and the hoop rests flat into your ear. Um, healing time for that is about four to six weeks, really easy to take care of it. Again, depending on your sleeping habit and all that again, just like with any type of ear piercing. Uh, that would depend on how long you know its gonna take to heal. Once it is healed a lot of people do just put little studs in there so all you have is like a little gem. Typically, its a really common piercing, its really easy to take care of. It is one of the more popular one’s out there these days.

We have a website pinsandneedlesportland.com. Piercing is my life and I’m going to talk to you about body piercing. Sternum piercing is a surface piercing that’s located directly on the breast bone, vertical or horizontal, depending on your preference. It’s done with what’s called a staple, which is a U-shaped bar, again, depending on the size of your choosing. The tops can be changed. They can be balls. They can be flat gems. The depth is about a quarter of an inch into the skin. Length is, typically, about an inch and a quarter directly down. It is done freehand, which consists of no clamping. It’s just a direct needle through the skin. The area’s all cleaned and wiped down. Everything like that and there’s, typically, no blood. Pierced, usually, with a 14 gauge. Some pierce’s do prefer to use PTFE, which is a bioplas plastic rope for healing purposes. For the most part, I prefer using the metal. The healing is better. It’s more comfortable, in my opinion and, to me, it just looks a lot better for the piercing.
