(7 Mar 2015) TATTOO CONVENTION HITS BUENOS AIRES
Some of the biggest names in tattoo ascended on Buenos Aires on Friday as the annual Argentine convention dedicated to the art form kicked off in the country’s capital.
The 11th annual tattoo show, considered the most important of its kind in the region, runs throughout the weekend in the La Rural convention centre.
Bodies painted in the synonymous black ink to intricate detailed designs or traditional motifs representing Argentine traditions were seen throughout the event.
Archangel tattoos, a well-known Argentine body art studio, specialises in religious themed works, with tattoos of Pope Francis topping their offerings.
Each of the three days of the exhibition will be dedicated to different styles – New School, Traditional and Back Full Colour.
For local man Alberto Fornes, who claims to be Argentina’s most tattooed man, the event is a chance to catch up with the ever expanding community of enthusiasts.
With an increasing global popularity of the sub-culture, the event draws well-known global faces of the tattoo community.
Among the foreign visitors to the event are members of US Television reality show, ‘Ink Master’.
Jay Blondel, one of the key members of last year’s edition of the reality TV competition, said visiting the event is a great opportunity to influence and be influenced.
“That’s what artists do, we share each other’s styles and influence each other and that is how you grow. So seeing new things is always good,” said Blondel.
The tattoo show will end on Sunday by choosing Miss Tattoo and the best work of the exhibition.
